4 day workweek

Position Overview:  Assist Special Education Student(s) and teacher in the special education classroom.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED
• Successfully pass paraprofessional exam or possess an Associates degree. (Highly qualified requirement)
• CPR and first aid certified.
• Obtain / Provide proof of Hepatitis A & B immunization.
• Ability to lift in excess of 100 lbs. (job may require aide to lift physically disabled students and move them into various positions to reinforce therapy goals and provide assistance with daily living skills.
• Maintain strict confidentiality.
• Desire to help children with learning challenges and/or severe disabilities.
• Restraint Training

Specific Duties:

• Follow through on assigned tasks in a timely manner.
• Be flexible, have the ability to multitask, and sensitive to changes in the classroom environment.
• Encourage students to complete their work as independently as possible.
• Be able to work with students one on one and facilitate small groups.
• Keep records of student progress towards IEP goals (checklists, behavior charts, etc.) based on the teacher’s instructions.
• Maintain accurate medical claims records.
• Work as a team member with teachers and related service providers to meet the student’s needs.
• Inform the special education teacher of any academic or behavioral issues involving students in class.
• Must demonstrate a professional manner to provide a positive role model for students.
• Must attend IEP/MET meetings if requested by the teacher.
• Will have basic computer skills
• Supervise students on campus and during off campus school activities.
• Position may require the following: diapering, feeding, lifting, toileting, assisting with daily living skills, and attending to students on the bus.
• Follow district policies and procedures.
• Complete other duties as assigned by the teacher or principal.
