Mayer Unified School District #43 | Computer Use Agreement
Mayer Unified School District (MUSD) encourages the use of technology to support education, research, and the educational goals of the District. Responsible and ethical use of technology is essential to maintaining a productive learning environment. Misuse of technology may result in disciplinary action, restitution for damages, and loss of technology privileges.
General Guidelines
Purpose of Technology Use: District-owned technology is intended for educational purposes only. Offsite use of devices requires explicit permission from the School Administration.
Care of Technology Resources: Devices must be handled responsibly and returned in good condition. Food and drink are prohibited near technology equipment to prevent accidental damage.
Replacement Costs for Negligence: Negligence is defined as the failure to take reasonable care of technology resources, resulting in damage or loss. Examples include:
- Throwing or intentionally damaging devices.
- Leaving devices in unsafe locations (e.g., outdoors or in unlocked cars).
- Using devices inappropriately, leading to damage.
Replacement costs for commonly damaged items:
- Chromebook: $250
- Computer Screen: $40
- Chromebook Case: $40
- Charger: $15
- Hotspot: $60
Normal wear and tear or unforeseen accidents will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
Acceptable Use Policy
In addition to the MUSD Acceptable Use Policy, the following rules apply to all students:
Prohibited Actions:
- Accessing or using software or websites (e.g., proxy servers) that could harm the network.
- Changing computer configurations (CPU, monitor settings).
- Downloading or streaming large non-educational files.
- Installing or using unauthorized software.
- Logging into or using another person’s account.
- Moving software from a local machine to a server without permission.
- Plagiarizing the work of others.
- Playing games during class time without authorization.
- Making purchases over the Internet.
- Sharing personal information with strangers online.
- Sending mass emails or using personal email accounts without staff approval.
Additional Restrictions:
- Viewing websites of questionable value or unrelated to schoolwork.
- Listening to music during instruction or when interacting with teachers without explicit permission.
Digital Citizenship
Students are expected to uphold principles of digital citizenship, including:
Respect Yourself and Others:
- Use appropriate language, images, and interactions online.
- Avoid bullying, harassment, or other harmful behaviors.
Protect Yourself and Others:
- Safeguard personal information and report any abuse or suspicious activities.
- Maintain the integrity of shared digital spaces and resources.
Respect and Protect Intellectual Property:
- Follow copyright laws.
- Properly cite sources and use licensed software and media.
Monitoring and Consequences
All activities conducted on District technology may be monitored.
Misuse of technology resources may result in:
- Disciplinary action, including suspension or expulsion.
- Loss of access to technology resources.
- Financial restitution for damages caused by negligence or intentional misuse.
Google Workspace for Education Notice to Parents and Guardians
Mayer Unified School District #43 uses Google Workspace for Education, a suite of productivity tools that includes Gmail, Calendar, Docs, Classroom, and more. Students use their accounts to complete assignments, communicate with teachers, sign into Chromebooks, and learn digital citizenship skills.
This notice explains what personal information Google collects, how it is used, and your rights as a parent or guardian.
Google Workspace Core Services May Include:
- Assignments, Calendar, Classroom, Cloud Search, Drive, Docs, Gmail, Google Chat, Chrome Sync, Google Meet, Vault, Groups, Keep, Migrate, Sites, Tasks [Schools may include additional services if enabled—e.g., YouTube, Google Maps]
What Personal Information Does Google Collect?
Google may collect:
- Student’s name, email address, and password.
- Activity while using services (e.g., interactions, shared content).
- Device information (e.g., type, operating system, IP address).
- Location data via IP, GPS, and device sensors.
- Communications for support or feedback.
If Additional Services are enabled (e.g., YouTube), Google may also collect:
- Search history, watched videos, app/browser/device data, voice/audio activity, general location.
How Does Google Use This Information?
In Core Services:
- To provide and improve educational services.
- To offer technical support and comply with legal obligations.
In Additional Services (if enabled):
- For service improvement and security.
- To deliver non-personalized ads (K–12 students will not receive personalized ads).
Can Students Share Information?
Yes. Students may be able to share files, photos, or other content using Google services. Content shared with others can remain accessible even if deleted by the student.
Will Google Disclose My Child’s Information?
Google may disclose personal information:
- To Mayer USD administrators who manage accounts.
- With parental consent.
- To trusted third parties for processing under strict confidentiality.
- For legal compliance, safety, or law enforcement when necessary.
Your Choices as a Parent/Guardian
- Consent: By signing this form, you permit MUSD to create a Google Workspace for Education account for your child and allow Google to collect/use their information only for educational purposes.
- Access/Deletion: You can request access to or deletion of your child’s account by contacting [insert contact information].

Consent Acknowledgment
By signing the Mayer Unified School District #43 | Computer Use Agreement, you consent to:
- Your child’s use of District-owned technology under the guidelines described above.
- The creation and management of a Google Workspace for Education account for your child.
- The collection, use, and disclosure of your child’s information by Mayer Unified School District and Google, solely for educational purposes, as outlined in this notice.
